Watch This Video to Learn Basic Sushi Etiquette
If going out for a bite of sushi leaves you feeling a little insecure, you may benefit from a quick lesson on basic sushi etiquette. This delicious Japanese treat, which literally means “snack”, is available in various forms, including nigiri, maki, and sashimi. Sashimi is raw fish alone, nigiri is fish on a bed of rice, and maki is a roll cut into five or six separate pieces.
Contrary to what some claim, it is perfectly okay to eat sushi with your fingers. If you choose to use chopsticks, never pass someone else a roll with them, and gently sit them parallel to your plate when not in use. If you want to learn more about the rolls you’re eating, grab a seat at the sushi bar and ask the chef a few questions. Take advantage of the ginger provided to cleanse your palette and enjoy the soy sauce if no sauce was already added to your roll.
Now that you’ve got the etiquette down, come check out the delicious rolls at Penthouse 808, the premiere rooftop restaurant at Ravel Hotel. Learn more about our Pan Asian cuisine by calling us today at (718) 289-6118.
